Acrylic paintings for sale are less expensive than oil paintings, most of the time, for a number of reasons. Tubes of good oil paints are usually more expensive to purchase. Drying time for acrylics can be a few minutes to several hours, rather than days or months with oils. A thick acrylic painting can be finished in one day. An oil painting can also be finished in a day but it will take weeks or months to dry if you want to add another coat of paint, move it elsewhere, or sell it. And oils are messy, so clean up is a pain. Of course, the results, when oils are layered (glazing) can be gorgeous. Before you purchase either medium look at both and then decide.

I was asked to paint this acrylic to match the modern style and specific colors in which a house was decorated. The rest of it was left to me. Acrylics are fun to paint. I used a retardant to slow down the drying process because once the paint is dry you have a buildup that is hard to get rid of; sometimes impossible. The people who asked for this painting lived in the northeast their whole lives but recently moved to Florida. They wanted a little bit of their memories in something visual. |
